Core Truth #2

This is the outline for our youth group meeting this week.  We are continuing our study on the Core Truths of Christianity.

Core Truth's You Must Know For An Unshakable Faith

Core Truth #2 – Virgin Birth

Christians Believe Jesus was Born to a Virgin Named Mary.

This week and next we will look at Core Truth #2 – The virgin birth of Jesus Christ.

•    The Virgin Birth was Predicted in the Bible

This belief is a core truth of Christianity and if found throughout the Bible, Jesus’ birth was the first sign that He was set apart from he rest of humanity—His birth was a complete miracle, a supernatural event.

Matthew 1:22-23

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him  Immanuel”—which means, “God with us”.

God is the father of Jesus.

Luke 1:28-35

•    Why the Virgin Birth Matters

An unshakable faith rests on the Bible’s truthfulness about the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.  The virgin birth is central to establishing that Jesus is God.

His virgin birth is vitally important to understanding why he came to earth and died on the cross and rose from the grave.  Everything that is supernatural about Jesus is dependant upon His supernatural entry into the world.

There are lots of verses in the Bible that point to virgin birth.  Check out Genesis 3:15.

“her seed,” or Eve’s offspring, is an unusual reference to children.  Normally in ancient times children were referred to as, “the seed of  the man”.  But Jesus was no product of a human father.

Isaiah 7:14 – Isaiah wrote this 700 years before the birth of Christ.

Parent/Teen Discussion:

Do your friends believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ?

Do they believe that Jesus is a real person?

How can you back up your belief in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ?

Spend some time together with a commentary or do an online search on crosswalk.com on the subject of the virgin birth and see what you can come up with in the way of Old Testament prophecies of Jesus Christ.
