Happy Birthday Twins

December 31 we got the call from the adoption agency. We weren't on the list and we weren't pursuing adoption at that time. The agency wanted to know if we would consider adopting twins. It took us about three hours to make the decision.

Two years ago Misha and I woke up and packed up and traveled to meet with our adoption agency. We knew the twins were on their way but thought we had 6 weeks to get ready. Little did we know that when we arrived we would be taken to the hospital's NICU to meet our two babies who decided to arrive early. It was an incredible day in our lives. Totally amazing!

Life is fun but it is a whole lot more fun since we have these two in our lives. God blessed us 2 years ago with our babies. Happy Birthday Ava and Eli!!

A Huge Day In Our Lives

Last year on this day we were driving to our adoption agency thinking that we would be having a meeting to prepare for the arrival of twins in about 6 weeks.

"So how ready are you guys for twins?"
Me - "We will roll with the punches."
(Laughter) "Your babies were born this morning!"

A Life Changing Decision

Some folks take months even years to make a decision.  I've been behind a few of them in the buffet line and they drive me nuts.

There are times in life that we must decide and we must decide here and now without taking weeks, months or years to make our decision.

I got the call on this day a year ago.  "Would you and Misha be interested in adopting  . . . twins?"  I was in an arena with several thousand students and their leaders getting ready to rock in the new year at Winterfest.

This is why it is important to know God's purpose and will for your life.  We knew that God wants us to be parents.  We knew that part of that plan is to use the miracle of adoption.  Did we know each step of the journey?  No, and we still don't.  This is why a life requires faith.

It took us only a matter of few hours to make the decision, a life changing decision for us and for our family and for two little tiny lives.  I know people that take a longer amount of time to decide on what type of tires to buy for their car.  What a great decision we made!  Then came the wait and wonder.

More to come on January 7. . .

Adoption Decree

Misha and I are stoked! Today we received in the mail the adoption decrees for the twins. It's official, the judge says they are ours now. Praise God for these two little precious gifts. Eli is full of happiness and laughter. Ava gives me little grins that melt my heart. New Year's Eve a year ago we got the call asking if we would be interested in adopting again . . . .twins. We have been blown away how God has orchestrated our lives and the lives of our children. It amazes me how God, in his divine wisdom and sovereignty has put our family together. Our next hurtle is to pay our balance on our adoption fees. We know that God has that all figured out already.

Christmas this year will be extra special. Even as I type I hear the laughter and giggles of my daughter. There is much joy in our home and we thank God for the joy that only He can give.

No More Orphans

If just 6% of the church would adopt a child from an orphanage there would be no more orphans in the world in two years.

Interested?  If you are contact Christian Adoption Services.  There are some Filipino children ready for immediate adoption.  One is a sibling group of 5 who have been waiting for 2 years for their forever home.  Don't let the language barrier make you nervous.  I went to the Philippines several years ago and spoke in the public schools and used no interpreter because the children learn English.

Just 6% of the church.  I seem to recall Jesus saying that true religion is taking care of widows and orphans.  What if we, as churches, quit wasting money on pipe organs and stained glass windows and ornate buildings and then invested that money into families who desired to adopt?

Happy Birthday To Our Twins!

Our twins are 6 months old today!  Six months ago God blessed us with these two awesome little lives.  I was thinking last night that I can't imagine life without them.  I thank God each day for the miracle of adoption.

The twins are both weighing in now around 17 pounds and are both around the 22-23 inches mark in length.  They are eating baby food (home made I might add because baby food is expensive enough with one baby much less two and home made is healthier) and drinking from a cup.  They still hit the bottle a few times a day.  For a couple of months now they have been sleeping through the night and we are stoked about that.

Twin A (baby girl) loves to talk and she also enjoys standing in the walker.  Twin B (baby boy) loves to eat and flex his muscles and growl.  They both have great smiles.  Twin B melts me with his big smile and Twin A has had me wrapped around her finger pretty much since birth.

Big brother is enjoying them both more now that they laugh and smile at him.  He enjoys entertaining them (at least for now).

Pray for us as we continue the journey in adoption and heading towards finalization as well as financing the adoption.

Did I mention I'm in love with another girl besides my wife?

Please continue to pray for us as we work on raising the money with those who want to partner with us by investing in these babies' lives.  God has blessed us with two more wonderful children through the miracle of adoption.

Happy Birthday!

Today our twins, "Fred and Wilma", baby A and B, are two months old!
They have doubled in weight.  They love to eat.  Don't cry much at all.  Sleep really good.
I am looking forward to them sleeping through the night.
"Fred" is starting to have more awake  and alert time,  "Wilma", since she is a girl, has been a bit ahead of him on this.
Both are beginning to hold their heads up really well.  "Fred" looks great in blue and "Wilma" looks great in pink or purple.
They love to snuggle with us and we love to snuggle with them.

Happy Birthday babies!

Twins Update

"Fred" and "Wilma" are doing great.  Growing, packing on the ounces.  "Fred" is weighing in at 5 lb 12 oz and "Wilma" is 5lb and 5 oz.  They are sleeping well only waking once during the night.  They both have a lot of "alert" time during the day which we enjoy.  It's fun holding two sleeping babies at one time!

More on the adoption

Names of our children are withheld for privacy reasons.  For our friends and family that may comment please don’t mention their names in the comment.  Thanks

I know a few are wondering how the whole process of adopting twins came about for us.  First of all we realize that God’s plan for us to have a family is through the miracle of adoption, this is how our family is growing.  Second we realized that our desire to parent was more important than the desire to achieve pregnancy or give birth.  We also know that there are children who need a family and we are a family who desires children, a perfect match.  We are amazed by a birth mom’s love for her child, to give her child the best life she possibly can.

Last summer we began the adoption process by completing a pre-application.  That was about the extent of our effort.  We were looking at the economy and thought there was no way financially we could adopt, as a result our adoption plans were put on hold.  Our prayer was that if God wanted us to adopt, He would need to drop a baby on our laps and provide financially for the adoption.

Fast forward to December 31.  I received a call from our friend at Christian Adoption Service.  She asked me if we would be interested in adopting twins.   I then called Misha and we both agreed we were up to the task, after all we weren’t pursuing adoption aggressively and God dropped a baby(ies) on our laps.  I let CAS know that the only barrier for us adopting right now is the financing.  Plainly and simply adoption is expensive and we don’t have that kind of money.  Long story short the adoption agency is working with us and with some organizations to help us raise the funds.  To finance the adoption will basically be a fundraising effort on our part and another miracle.  Because we had put adoption on hold we had no plan for financing this adoption.

We set up a meeting with the agency for January 7.  Part of this meeting would include meeting with the birth mom (people always want details but we are holding those back until the twins are old enough and interested).  While at the agency they asked us if we were ready to parent twins?  I said, “We will roll with the punches.”  Then they threw the punch, “Your babies were born this morning!”

Life comes at you fast, in a week we went from the parents of 1 to 3.  Thinking we had about 6 weeks to prepare.  Our twins arrived premature.  Both were healthy and doing well.  We were able to go to the NICU and hold and feed them.  It was incredible!

The babies were so small, I was a bit nervous about picking them up.  They were hooked to monitors and there were alarms and noises going off but that didn’t bother us because of our experience in NICU this time last year with our great-niece.  We got to hold them and feed them and they were only about 12 hours old.

When the nurse placed our babies in our arms I immediately fell in love.  I can’t explain how that happens but it does.  We weren’t sure we could adopt again, I never thought I would have a baby girl, but God had his plans.

Our prayer request now:

  1. The babies continue to be healthy
  2. For their birth mom.  Her sacrificial gift of love is amazing to me and we want to continue to pray for her.
  3. The financing of the adoption

If you are interested in partnering with us in this adoption please drop me an e-mail me at twinsadoption@gmail.com.
