For the first half of my life at home we woke up at 6am and did a devotional before my dad left for work. As time went on we all started to enjoy our sleep and switched to nighttimes.
My kids are still little and so we don't have a structured time right now but we do a Bible story every night when we say prayers and as they get older it will turn into more of a devotional.
my mom always took us into the bedroom and we read out of the bible before bed. I still remember how much I loved to get a list of genologies to read...why she didn't skip that, I'll never know. We do breakfast devos now, as often we don't get but a 3-4 suppers together a week, and often have other people for dinner. This is a good time for us to review the lessons/sermons from Sunday, read from the devo books, or choose passages that have to do with things I know we are struggling with.
This is something that I wish that my family had done when I was younger (my father wasn't a Christian though, so I'm not quite sure how that would have worked...but I think that it would have been good for my mom and I to read the Bible together).
After my parents passed away when I was in high school I went to live with a friend's family. The parents claimed to be Christians and I was required to attend church to live with them, but they never shared the Gospel with me (told me I was going to hell once, but didn't explain the remedy to that was through Jesus). I wish that we had done devos together too...I think that it would have helped me out a lot.
I became a Christian when I began to attend university, and I DEFINITELY plan to have family devos if/when I settle down and have some munchkins of my own :-)
