The Day that Would Have Been

Sometimes we think we know what is supposed to happen.
Sometimes we think we know how an event will unfold.
Sometimes we look at the calendar and say, "There is the day".
Sometimes we want life to be all neat and clean and predictable.

Sometimes we need to realize God is sovereign, God is in control of all things.

And isn't it funny how, even though God proves again and again that His plan is always best, there is still the "human-ness" inside us that sometimes still feels a need to ask, "God are you really sure about this?" :) He gave us a magnificent brain to use in all sorts of ways, and sometimes our arrogance gets in the way of us fully realizing that our intelligence is just a minute fraction of the Mind behind everything! But what sweet peace comes when we finally arrive at the point of saying, "God I don't need to understand...I will simply trust You!" Too bad we often need to remind ourselves of that again, and again, and again! :)
Let me say, once again, that I will be forever grateful to all the members of your family who have so graciously stepped out of any sort of comfort zone, to allow countless millions of people watch your miracles unfold in such a public way! Thank you all!

Love this post. God most certainly is in control of all things & your entire family has reminded me of that each day I've followed their journey!

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that the golden nugget of life is learning to trust God.

I'm going to suggest to Nate that our choir learn Twila Paris' song "God is in Control". Love that song and our choir could rock the house with it.

And the box we try to put Him in is often ridiculous. Who are we to think we know. I'm in awe of God just watching. I love that you used that picture of Gwyneth. She just makes me happy when I look at it.

GREAT post! I may borrow your idea sometime! I'm currently waiting to adopt a precious baby girl from China. My file has been there for 25 months now. What was originally anticipated to be a 6 month wait has been much, much longer.

BUT, God's timing is perfect! Sweet Gwyneth Rose was born the exact moment that God ordained her to be born and she is beautiful! God has His hand on her and the rest of the family too. Praying for them as they take these steps on their way to going home.

Catherine -
Adoption is an amazing event. God is in control of even the timing in China. Hang in there!!

I love this post.. I just sent the link to a couple of friends! I was blessed to meet Tricia and Nate, and your parents recently at Duke. What an awesome family you have!! BTW... has anyone ever told you that you look like Todd Agnew? He's my favorite singer.

Never Todd Agnew but he is our worship leader at camp this summer. Yeeha!

What an awesome camp that will be! My family is hoping to catch his show at Wake Forest this summer. My daughter has told several friends about it, she's so excited. We all saw his Christmas show in 2006.

BTW, I thought Nate was your brother.. now I see he's your nephew.. ooops! Sorry for the mistake.
