Do boys never have eating disorders? all the stistics they gave were for girls. I know that anorexia is typically found in girls, I'm curious about the statics with the male population.
Do we have resources in our area to recommend to youth struggling with this?
Although I'm sure there have been recorded cases, I've never read or heard of any guy suffering from this problem.
There is more pressure and media influence that pushes young ladies to be more concerned with their appearances than guys. Just hang out in the entrance of a local high school and you will see that girls are obviously way more concerned about their looks than guys are.
BUT some guys do need professional help when it comes to a healthy diet. Usually with guys it is how to eat healthy and in moderation so that they don't become a big gelatinous tub of goo.
Here is an article on boys and anorexia: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Health/Story?id=1654439&page=1
Bonnie is the teacher's pet by doing her homework first!
As a high school girl, I had a friend who was bulumic and I didn't even know! We were close and even slept over sometimes, but I still had no idea. I could eat whatever I wanted back then and stayed thin, she stayed thin because after eating, she would purge. She confided in me after we were both grown, married, and had children. She had a wake up call while carrying her first child. I am glad there are signs to look for. I guess at 15 I didn't know to look for signs. It wasn't widely discussed that I recall until Karen Carpenter died.
