If I Seem Grumpy

Today is day one.  Today I joined Weight Watchers.  I'm doing it on line because I have this idea in my head that that meetings are a bunch of overweight ladies talking about their battle avoiding bonbons during their favorite soap.  Now I know that's not a PC statement I'm just being honest that's the picture in my head. I have yet to meet a man that attends the meetings although I'm sure they exist.  As a matter of fact I'm participating in the Weight Watchers online for men.

So today I kept track of my points, actually the web site does that for me.  I punch what I ate and the site figures up the points.

My food intake today consisted of the following:

Whole grain pop tarts for breakfast (I actually ate this before joining but being the good, honest person I'll count the points)  If I knew that they were worth 4 points I would have ate one tart and then ate the second later when I got hungry again.

A salad for lunch.  The salad thing is the deal because it is worth zero points.

For supper I cooked my first weight watchers meal.  Chicken Alfredo on linguine noodles.  I browned the chicken with garlic, I then mixed up whipping cream, non fat yogurt and chicken broth and let it simmer with the chicken for 30 minutes.  Pulled out the chicken, mixed in the fresh cut parley and Parmesan, tossed in the whole wheat pasta and voila it was good.

So here it is about an hour since I ate and my stomach is already growling.  I have a feeling my stomach will be growling quite a bit for the next week or two as my body adjusts.  So if I seem grumpy it's because I'm hungry and when I'm hungry I'm cranky.  So back off! :)

Came via Nate's blog...

I attend WW - I am at least a young lady. :) (Youngish, anyway.) There are actually several men at our meetings! So if you were curious, you could always go as a guest.

Good luck! I am the world's worst Weight Watcher. :)

Sorry I can't bring myself to going. I will enjoy my group of one. :)

maybe they'll hire you to be their TV spokesperson...I had never really thought about the fact that most 'dieting' commercials are women...except those football players that drink their meals. You'll do fine. If you do, maybe I'll join to. You can be our inspiration!

Also came via Nate's blog and also a WW Member (3 years in August) Try the 94% fat free popcorn, the mini bags are only 1 point for the whole bag...

Thanks for the popcorn point tip!
The more food I can consume with the less points the happier I will be.

There is a 2 point per cup taco soup recipe I cook that is easy, tastes great and is very filling. I found it at DWLZ.COm under WW recipes.

GO ANDY ..... GO!

I myself need to shed a few pounds and having done WW before, I can tell you that it DEFINITELY works! The first week will be a bit tough, but once you see those numbers going down on the scale and your clothes start to feel loose on you, you will be more and more MOTIVATED to continue. Once you get into the swing of it, you'll find new "favorite" foods and you'll learn the tricks of the trade. You'll learn quickly about which tasty foods are low in points! Just stay with it! You'll feel so great about yourself. Now, hhhhmmmm.....if I can only convince myself to get back with the program! Ha! Once I see how great you are doing, maybe I'll be motivated to get back with it myself! Having said all of that.....just remember......if you do it right.....WW DOES WORK!!!

P.S. - There is a GREAT website I used to visit quite often when I was doing WW. It is www.DWLZ.com

There is an entire section of that website dedicated to nothing but restaurants, almost every "chain" restaurant you can think of. You can look up "points" for all kinds of restaurant foods. So cool! So if you know in advance you will be going to a certain restaurant, you can go to the website and "plan ahead" by looking up the POINTS for any food served at that particular restaurant.

Sorry, don't think Capt'n Frank's is going to be listed on the website. :)

BEST Of LUCK!

I started the online WW today too! My husband is going to loosley follow along...just because he needs to drop his cholesterol not so much weight.

There are several whole grain breads you can get that will only cost you a point. If you use a low fat turkey or ham you could have a sandwich with mustard at night when you feel your belly grumbling. If you feel hungry then you prbably aren't getting enough fiber and protein. And if you're hungry the chances of binging are greater.
Here's a yummo low point treat. Take two fat free chocolate graham crackers and spread about 3/4 of an inch of fat free cool whip on one, top with the other, wrap in saran and freeze. A low point fat free "ice cream" sandwich!
Also, toss some veggies with fat free italian dressing and saute until the veggies are crisply done. Serve over about 1 cup of the whole wheat pasta. Also very yummy. I use zuchini, broccoli, onion, carrots, tomato, and whatever else I have handy.
I've done WW before, very successfully, but allowed my weight to slowly creep back up. Need to drop about 30 lbs.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I read your blog often and find you to be a pretty interesting person. You seem to always have something to say and it usually is funny. I don't know too many bloggers in the blogger world and I've been tagged. Since you seem like you could have a lot of fun with this I am tagging you.

HERE'S HOW YOU PLAY. ONCE YOU'VE BEEN TAGGED YOU HAVE TO WRITE A BLOG OF TEN WEIRD, RANDOM THINGS, FACTS OR HABITS ABOUT YOURSELF. AT THE END, YOU CHOOSE FIVE PEOPLE TO BE TAGGED, LISTING THEIR NAMES AND WHY YOU CHOSE THEM TO BE TAGGED. DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE THEM A COMMENT "YOU'RE IT" AND TO READ YOUR BLOG. YOU CAN'T TAG THE PERSON WHO TAGGED YOU. SINCE YOU CAN'T TAG THAT PERSON BACK, LET HIM OR HER KNOW WHEN YOU'VE POSTED YOUR BLOG SO HE OR SHE CAN READ YOUR ANSWERS

Oh and good luck with WW. Have had a couple of friends who did it and had great results!

LOL You crack me up. I've been working out 3 times a week for a year, and haven't lost more than 5 pounds. And then gained that back… then lost it… then gained it back… Do you see a pattern here? I seriously need to go on a diet, but counting points… I don't know about that.

Good for you Andy! I don't have the will power to to something that regimented. Like a lot of others who wrestle with weight, mine goes up and down. My best results have always come when I add walking to the process. (It used to be running, but...)

Let your dog be your trainer, it will make a difference, I promise. A brisk one and a half mile walk daily, does wonders combined with something in the way of a reasonable diet.

Swahilimama-

I was able to end my day with a cup of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce drizzled on top.
The web site keeps track of my points for me. I just punch in what I ate and it figures it up.

Chris - I plan on letting my dog take me for a walk. We are both fat, oh excuse me, obese.
