It's not unusual that David is writing a song, that's what David did. It's not even unusual that he wrote a song, played it and probably sang it in a cave while being hunted down like a dog.
I find it unusual from a human standpoint. Would I in a bad situation take the time to praise God? That's not how I, and probably most folks, respond. It's not natural.

How would my life be different if I responded in the worst of life's storms with the desire to bring glory to God above everything else? That would be unusual from a human standpoint, it wouldn't be natural. And I think that's the point.

I was struck several years ago when I was reading about the disciples in jail. It was midnight...and they were praising God and SINGING! Somehow I don't know know it I would have been singing in those circumstances, especially at midnight. But they did, and as a result 1) they were given an opportunity to escape 2) they saved a man from committing suicide 3) his whole family was saved and baptized that night 4) they received a celebrity escort from the city, and 5) they encouraged the other believers. Maybe God would still have done all those things, but I think the singing was important or it wouldn't have been mentioned. Our attitude in the hard times must be part of the blessing. It's not easy, though. Good thoughts Andy.
